Marching Band Festival participating directors –
Does anyone else have a PSAT conflict on the day of Festival (Oct 11 this year)? This has happened for a few years now. Our Guidance Office secretary said there may be a make-up/alternate date, but I wanted to ask before our meeting tomorrow. She also told me this is a national College Board testing date that kids can voluntarily sign up for. Those that rehearse in the afternoon may not have had this conflict before, but the AM rehearsing groups may recall issues.
My AP just gave me a thumbs up on a band director round-table PD session to talk shop. Notably, the discussion would entail:
-5D/5D+ or other like-evaluation systems in relation to the music classroom
-Formative Assessment/FAME in our classrooms
-Pre-Post test sharing session
-Writing across the curriculum and what we do to incorporate it
-General shop talk/strategies relating to music and teaching
I’d be willing to facilitate it, but for now if you’d want to take part in it, ask your administrator if they would be supportive. Sounds like some of ours are already there.
Please ask your admin’s next week and we can discuss the idea in New Business at our meeting and perhaps set a date. I feel this is a big pendulum swing and a younger generation of admin’s may be more open to it. It could be very positive – useful PD is what it should be!
Attached is the Marching Band Festival registration form. This form will also be available at the Fall Meeting, but I wanted to get it out sooner because I need the registration and the check or signed purchase order by September 15. Please enclose a check or p.o. prior to or on the deadline. You can also submit them to me at the Fall Meeting.
Don’t forget to renew your MSBOA memberships! The deadline is September 20th…

District I Directors:
Please email me suggestions for a conductor for our Honors Band next January. Your input will greatly help me, especially if you have connections to someone specific.
